Small plates

I have thoroughly enjoyed going through the Technology Tapas exercises. I am surrounded by techies in my personal life (husband, brother, father, friends, etc, etc...) so this has been a great way for me to quickly get up to speed on many of the technologies that they use on a regular basis without the "can you show me.." or "what exactly IS...?" conversations. I loved learning about blogs, wikis and RSS feeds, learned new things about Flickr that I didn't know and several things that I'm happy to learn about but will never touch again. (Podcasts. Yech.)

I thought this format for learning was fabulous. It allowed me to go at my own pace when I had the time. No small feat with all that's going on these days. I would love to participate in more activities like this in the future.

Now for some dessert...

Podcasts...psshht!!

I took no enjoyment from looking at podcast directories. Not one bit. I couldn't find one podcast worth listening to - and believe me, I tried. After randomly searching for something worth writing home about, I thought I'd try searching for the podcast of a band I like, since I know that they occasionally create them. No such luck. Seems like just a big waste of time, if you ask me.

So I have no podcast to add to my bloglines. Psshht. :P

All I want is... a decent video

"All I Want is You" is my all-time, absolute favorite song. About 3 1/2 minutes in The Edge's guitar solo and Bono's cry make my heart sing every time I hear them. Unfortunately, the video for this song is complete crap. What do gypsies, little people and a traveling circus have to do with my beloved song? Thankfully, a quick search on YouTube presents many live versions as well as mimics, wannabes, and other assorted souls. So I can get my fix without the circus.

As far as work goes, I can see how the use of YouTube in libraries can give the library some "street cred" with teens/tweens/Millenials as well as showcase in live format all the great things the libraries are doing.

There were so many amazing photos that I didn't know where to start - but I like this one a great deal. I found it under the "Last 7 Days" link, and just kept reloading to see new pictures. I just love the colors here.

I also saw a very cool picture of a cake that looked like a handbag, which led me to explore all the photos posted by the cake lady, which somehow led me to pictures of Denmark, which led me... you get the idea. :)

How fun is that??

As far as actual wikis go, I think they're a fantastic tool and while I don't have library-specific uses for them, I can see all kinds of ways to use them in business. Life would be SO much easier if contract negotiations, budget documents, grant applications, etc. all on wikis instead of Word and Excel! I am constantly searching for the latest draft of something, trying to remember who was included in an email stream so I can search past emails, that kind of thing. This would save bundles of time.

Ok, I admit it, when presented with the list of sites that one Web 2.0 awards I was not at all interested in finding ones that are work-related. So what did I do? I browsed craigslist, of course!! I continue to hear about it but have never visted the site. Oh boy, it might become my new favorite shopping site!! Bank account, beware...

Ok, that last post was my trying to be cool and posting to my blog from Zoho Writer. Got the basics down, just need to figure out how to add a title. I need to explore a bit more and see how to share documents, but I can't wait until this becomes the norm!!
